Privacy policy
Last updated: October 5, 2026
This policy explains what information MeetSitters collects, how we use and share it, and the choices you have. It applies to meetsitters.com and the MeetSitters web app.
Who we are
MeetSitters ("we," "us") is a scheduling tool for US families who use babysitters, and for the sitters who work with them. Parents post babysitting shifts and share links to them. Sitters offer to take shifts, and parents pick who sits.
MeetSitters is for adults in the United States.
Information we collect
Information you give us
- Account details: your name, email address, and phone number. If you add a passkey, we never receive your fingerprint or face data.
- Sitter profile: your photo, school, graduation year, short bio, and hourly rate, plus your confirmation that you're 18 or older.
- Scheduling activity: shifts and schedules, offers, bookings, confirmations, check-ins, shift reports and any photos added to them, and pay records if you choose to enter them.
- Messages and notes you write to other users or add to shifts.
- Support requests you send us.
- Billing details: if you buy a paid plan, Stripe processes your payment. We receive limited details, like your plan and payment status. We don't store full card numbers.
Information parents give us about their household
Parents can add details that help sitters care for their kids, such as:
- the home address, a neighborhood label, and a family display name
- children's first names, ages or birthdates, and optional photos
- allergies, medications, routines, and house notes
- door or alarm codes and Wi-Fi details
- names and contact details of people they invite, like a co-parent, family viewer, or sitter
Some of this is sensitive. Parents decide what to add, and we limit who can see it, as described below. Please add only information you have the right to share.
Information from other users
Other users may give us information about you. For example, a parent may record your rate with their family or keep private notes about working with you.
Information we collect automatically
- Device and usage data: your IP address (which can show your general location), browser and device type, the pages you visit, the actions you take, and logs and error reports.
- Notification data: whether our messages were delivered and, if you turn on push notifications, the details your browser needs to deliver them.
How we use information
We use information to:
- run MeetSitters: create accounts, sign you in, post and share shifts, and handle offers and bookings
- send you sign-in codes, shift alerts, booking confirmations, reminders, and account notices by email, push notification, or text message (texts only if you opt in)
- keep MeetSitters safe: prevent fraud, spam, and abuse, look into reports, and enforce our terms of service
- provide support
- learn how features are used, with personal data masked in our analytics, and find and fix bugs
- manage billing for paid plans
- comply with the law and protect our rights
We don't sell personal information. We don't share it for cross-context behavioral advertising (ads based on your activity across other sites and apps), and we don't share it with other companies for their own marketing.
How information is shared inside a household
MeetSitters shows each person only what their role allows. Within a household:
- Parents see everything for their household, including offers, pay, house details, and the profiles and contact details of their sitters.
- Family viewers, like grandparents, see the household calendar, the home address, and the kids' details, but not pay, door and alarm codes, or Wi-Fi details.
- Sitters see open shifts, their own bookings, and the first names of sitters on other shifts. They see the home address only for shifts they're booked on, and door codes, alarm codes, and Wi-Fi details only shortly before and during those shifts. Sitters can also see how to reach the parents, plus the household details parents share with them, like the kids' names, routines, and allergies.
- A friend covering a shift sees only the neighborhood, the kids' ages, and the pay until a parent approves them. After that, they see what a booked sitter sees for that shift.
Shared links. Anyone with a link to a shift or schedule may see its preview details: the date, time, kids' ages, pay, family display name, and neighborhood. Link previews never show the home address, the kids' names or photos, or door codes. Links can be reset if they're shared too widely.
Service providers
We use other companies to help run MeetSitters. They process information for us, and we give each one only what it needs to do its job:
- Hosting: Vercel
- Database: Neon
- Email delivery: Mailgun
- Text messaging: Twilio
- Payments: Stripe
- Error monitoring: Sentry
- Product analytics: PostHog
- File storage: Cloudflare R2 or Amazon S3
We also use infrastructure providers for things like running scheduled tasks and preventing abuse. Stripe handles payment details under its own privacy policy as well.
Legal and safety disclosures
We may share information if we believe in good faith that it's needed to:
- follow the law or respond to valid legal requests, like a subpoena or court order
- protect someone's safety, especially a child's
- prevent or look into fraud, abuse, or security problems
- protect the rights and property of MeetSitters and our users
Business transfers
If MeetSitters is involved in a merger, acquisition, financing, reorganization, or sale of assets, information may be transferred as part of that deal. The new owner will have to protect it as this policy describes, or tell you before anything changes.
Text messages (SMS)
If you opt in to text messages, we use your phone number to send the texts you asked for and to verify your number. We keep a record of your consent, like when you opted in and the wording you agreed to. You can opt out at any time by replying STOP. See our SMS terms for details.
We do not sell, rent, or share your mobile phone number or text message opt-in consent with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. Text messaging originator opt-in data and consent are not shared with any third parties, except service providers that deliver messages on our behalf.
Children's privacy
MeetSitters is for adults. Children don't have accounts, and sitters must be 18 or older. We don't knowingly collect personal information directly from children under 13. If you think a child has given us personal information, email support@meetsitters.com and we'll delete it.
Parents choose what to share about their kids, and they can change or remove it at any time. Shift report photos may show children, and families can set reports and photos to delete automatically.
Cookies and analytics
We use essential cookies to keep you signed in and to protect your account. We also use privacy-friendly product analytics to learn how MeetSitters is used, with personal data masked. Our analytics may store an identifier in your browser so we can count visits.
We don't use advertising cookies or trackers, and we don't let other companies track you across sites through MeetSitters. Because of this, we handle your information the same way whether or not your browser sends a Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control signal.
You can clear or block cookies in your browser, but you'll need to sign in again.
Security
We protect your information with:
- encryption in transit (TLS)
- application-level encryption at rest for the most sensitive household details: the home address, door and alarm codes, and medical notes like allergies and medications
- role-based access controls
- a record of who viewed door codes and when
- an audit log of schedule changes
Our team accesses your information only when needed to support you, run and protect MeetSitters, or meet legal obligations. No system is perfectly secure, so we can't promise your information will always be safe. Sign-in codes go to your email, so keep your email account secure.
How long we keep information
- We keep account information while your account is active.
- Families can set shift reports and photos to delete automatically, for example after 12 months.
- If you ask us to delete your information, we'll delete it within 30 days, except what we need to keep for legal, security, or backup reasons. Backups roll off within 30 days.
- When a sitter deletes their account, families keep their past schedule records, but the sitter's name is replaced with "Former sitter."
Your choices and rights
- Access and correction: you can view and update most of your information in your account.
- Export and deletion: email us to get a copy of your information or to delete it.
- Notifications: change your notification settings in your account, turn off push notifications in your device settings, or reply STOP to stop texts.
US state privacy rights
Depending on where you live, such as California, you may have the right to:
- know what personal information we collect, use, and disclose, and get a copy of it
- correct inaccurate personal information
- delete your personal information
- opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information, or its use for targeted advertising
- limit how we use sensitive personal information
- appeal our decision about your request
We don't sell personal information, and we don't use or share it for targeted advertising, so there's nothing to opt out of. We use sensitive information, like children's health details, only to provide MeetSitters and keep it secure.
To make a request, email support@meetsitters.com from the address on your account. We'll verify your request, usually by confirming you control that email address. You can also use an authorized agent, and we may ask for proof that they can act for you. We'll respond within 45 days, or tell you if we need more time. If we turn down your request, you can appeal by replying to our decision. If you're still not satisfied, you can contact your state attorney general.
We won't discriminate against you for using your privacy rights.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy. We'll post the new version here and change the date at the top. If we make significant changes, we'll let you know by email or in MeetSitters before they take effect.
